Seeing In The New Year - How To Make The Most Of It!
At the end of each year, we all get the asked same question: “What’s your New Year’s Eve Resolution going to be?”
More often than not our answer tends be watch we eat and take it easy on the booze after a good few days of indulging ourselves over the festive season.
At David Henderson Opticians, we’re all for making an effort to make healthier choices. This year we want to challenge you to make a couple of extra promises to yourself to safeguard a part a vital part of your overall health that is often overlooked, your eye sight!
Last year there were many reports in the news about mounting pressures of eye care demands for local hospitals. As the population gets older, these pressures are going to mount so it’s important that we all do our bit by making sure we’re safeguarding our eyesight.
This year why not promise yourself to follow these simple tips for maintaining healthy eyes!
Eat well – Nutrition is the first step to safeguarding your sight. Making sure you include lots of leafy greens like spinach and kale as well as healthy oily fish such as salmon tuna is a must. Eggs, beans citrus fruits and juices are all great sources of vitamins and nutrients that can help stave off age related problems like macula degeneration and cataracts.
Wear your sunglasses – It’s no secret that over exposure to UV light can be harmful to your eyes. When choosing your sunnies, make sure that they block 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays. You can also go one step further and choose polarized lenses to help reduce glare.
Visit your optometrist more often – The College of Optometrists recommends that we should have our eyes examined once every two years but it’s so important that we are also taking the necessary steps to monitor our own eyesight. Any changes in our vision, no matter how small they might seem, can be indicators for underlying conditions so it’s important you contact your local optometrist to receive an examination the moment you suspect something.
From all of us at David Henderson Opticians, we hope you had a brilliant Christmas and New Year and wish you the best of health for 2017!
